Step up vigilance on highways ahead of Eid: IGP to police
Newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir has directed field-level officers to adopt a zero-tolerance approach to extortion, mugging, and drug-related crimes.
The IGP delivered the message this morning during a virtual law and order meeting with superintendents of police from all districts, held from the Police Headquarters in Dhaka.
He instructed district and highway police to step up vigilance to stop extortion, mugging, and robbery on highways.
Ahead of Eid, he instructed officials to ensure safe and smooth travel for homebound passengers, prevent traffic congestion, and make sure people can reach their destinations and return home safely.
The IGP also stressed the importance of treating citizens with courtesy at police stations, urging officers to build public trust through professional conduct and improve the image of Bangladesh Police.
He stressed that innocent people must not be harassed under any circumstances.
Calling for unity, Ali Hossain urged district superintendents of police to work together to build a safer Bangladesh.
Additional IGPs and senior officials from Police Headquarters attended the meeting.
