Facebook is rolling out new tool to protect reels
Facebook is introducing a new content-protection tool designed to help creators safeguard their original reels across Facebook, and Instagram, according to a recent blog post by Meta.
The feature, accessible through the content tab of Professional dashboard in Facebook, automatically protects any original reel a creator posts after enrolling in the programme. Meta said the tool continuously scans both platforms for full or partial matches to protected reels, and alerts creators when their work appears elsewhere without permission.
According to Meta, eligible creators can then review each detected match and choose whether to track it, block it from being viewed, or release the claim entirely. A tracked reel can display an "original by" attribution label that links back to the creator's profile, while blocked reels are removed from public visibility but do not trigger disciplinary action against the reposting account.
Meta has also introduced an "allow list" for creators who want to give specific accounts permission to reuse their work. The company said safeguards are in place to prevent misuse, including the ability to dispute attempts by others to claim ownership of original content and to submit copyright takedown requests through its reporting system.
Automatic access to the tool is being rolled out to creators who are part of Facebook's Content Monetization programme and meet its originality standards, as well as those already using the Rights Manager, Meta's copyright management tools. Other eligible users may apply through the Professional Dashboard.
