Aamir Khan’s ‘Sitaare Zameen Par’ set for SonyLIV streaming debut
A sports comedy-drama starring Aamir Khan is finally heading to streaming nearly a year after its theatrical release.
The film, “Sitaare Zameen Par”, was initially released in cinemas in June 2025 and later made available on Khan’s YouTube channel through a pay-per-view model, where viewers could watch it by paying around Rs 100 per view. The movie is now scheduled to premiere on SonyLIV, marking a significant moment for the platform as the first Hindi theatrical film to debut there.
Directed by R S Prasanna, the film is the official Hindi remake of the Spanish movie “Champions”. In the adaptation, Khan portrays Gulshan Arora, an assistant coach of a professional basketball team whose life takes an unexpected turn after he loses his job and becomes involved in a drunk-driving case. The court-mandated consequences set off a journey that reshapes his perspective on life.
Explaining the decision to release the film independently on YouTube earlier, Khan had said he wanted to experiment with a new distribution approach that would make films more accessible to audiences. “This is my private cinema chain. Think of it like Aamir Khan Productions opening a cinema that exists in everyone’s home and pocket,” he told PTI, adding that he preferred earning directly from viewers rather than accepting large upfront deals from OTT platforms.
The film also features Genelia Deshmukh, Ashish Pendse, Aroush Datta, Aayush Bhansali, Rishi Shahani, Gopikrishnan K Varma, Rishabh Jain, Vedant Sharma, Simran Mangeshkar, Samvit Desai and Naman Misra.
Following its theatrical run across India, “Sitaare Zameen Par” went on to become a major box office success, reportedly earning more than Rs 250 crore.
