A man was killed and at least three others were injured after a train crashed into a lorry in Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong early today.

Four carriages and the engine derailed after the incident.

A salvage train removed the wrecked coach and rail link between the capital and the port city resumed at around 11:00am.

Dhaka-Chittagong rail link was suspended for about six hours after the incident took place around 5:10am, our local correspondent reports.

Chittagong-bound Bijoy Express from Mymensingh hit the lorry at Barabkuna level-crossing, said Himangsu Das Rana, officer-in-charge of Chittagong Government Railway Police.

The deceased was identified as Md Ajgor, 35, from Laksam in Comilla. Two of the injured were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Their names could not be ascertained.

A three-member probe body has been formed to investigate the accident, said Chittagong Divisional Railway Manager Md Mofizur Rahman. "The gateman of the level-crossing has been suspended."
