Swechchhasebak Dal leader shot dead in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar
Swechchhasebak Dal leader Azizur Rahman Musabbir was shot dead, while another man was injured, after miscreants opened fire on them on Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue near Karwan Bazar's Star Hotel tonight.
Musabbir was the former general secretary of Dhaka City North Swechchhasebak Dal, the volunteer wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party.
Fazlul Karim, additional deputy commissioner (Tejgaon Zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, confirmed the development to The Daily Star.
Sufian Byapari Masud, who was injured in the shooting, was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), he said.
Fazlul said around 8:40pm, miscreants opened fire on Musabbir and Masud near Star Hotel.
After shooting, Musabbir was rushed to BRB Hospital in Panthapath where doctors declared him dead, said the police official.
Masud is currently receiving treatment in the DMCH's emergency department, he said.
Mohammad Javed, who brought Masud to the hospital, said Masud is the general secretary of the Tejgaon thana Van Workers' Union and lives in Keraniganj.
Following the incident, around 200 BNP leaders and activists started protesting at Karwan Bazar intersection, reports our correspondent from the spot.
