Teen dies as bus catches fire from mosquito coil

A teenager was killed as a bus caught fire in Tongibari, Munshiganj early today.

The deceased is Sahabir Mia, 14, son of Sohel Mia of Pathanbari in Louhajang upazila. He used to work as an assistant to the bus driver.

The incident occurred around 2:15am when a passenger bus of Gangchil Paribahan, which was parked on the Baligaon Bridge, caught fire.

Mahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Tongibari Police Station, said the fire broke out when a lit mosquito coil came into contact with a mobile phone, leading to an explosion and igniting a fire.

The assistant, who was asleep on the bus at the time, was killed in the incident.

The body has been sent for autopsy to Munshiganj General Hospital.

An unnatural death case will be filed in this regard, he said.
