Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal is now in observation at CCU of the KPJ Specialised Hospital in Savar after a successful stent surgery.

"By the grace of Allah, his [Tamim's] condition right now is better. He had a heart attack. For that, an angiogram, angioplasty and stenting was done. By the grace of Allah, the stenting was really smooth and efficient. The block [in his artery] has been completely removed," the hospital's media director Dr Rajib Hasan told the media in a press briefing.

Tamim had suffered a heart attack earlier in the morning at BKSP during the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club and was brought to the hospital.

"He [Tamim] fell ill at around 9:00-9:30 am at BKSP. He was then brought here and his treatment began," the physician said.

The initial plan was to send Tamim to Dhaka by helicopter for better treatment. But after the initial treatment, Tamim felt better and headed back to BKSP, where his condition worsened.

"Later, his condition became critical and he returned to the hospital. Whatever treatment he required in that condition, has been provided to him."

Although Tamim's condition is improving after the surgery he is still not out of danger yet, said the physican.

"His condition was critical. Even after the stenting he is in observation, he is still in critical condition, it will take some time. All of us are trying heart and soul. Everyone please pray for Tamim bhai."
