Dinajpur teen sent to juvenile correction centre over cousin’s murder
A Dinajpur court today sent a teenage boy to the Jashore Juvenile Correction Centre in a case filed over the killing of his eight-year-old cousin.
The 17-year-old accused, of Dangapara village in Nawabganj upazila of Dinajpur, allegedly killed the child out of anger over insults from the victim’s parents, according to Devid Himadree, sub-inspector of Nawabganj Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Asif Uddin passed the order after the accused was produced before the court in the afternoon.
The court also recorded the confessional statement of the accused under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, according to the court sources.
Yesterday, the victim’s father field a case with the police station.
Investigation Officer Devid told The Daily Star that the victim, from Dangapara village, went missing after iftar on Friday evening.
After a frantic search, family members found him unconscious with severe injuries in a crop field near Amrulbari Dangapara Madrasa around 10:30 pm.
He was rushed to Phulbari Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
On suspicion, police picked up the victim’s cousin yesterday afternoon, the IO said.
During primary interrogation, the teenager confessed to the killing. Following his statement, the knife believed to have been used in the murder was recovered from the same field, the office r added.
According to the accused’s statement, he first strangled the boy after taking him to the field and later hacked him with a sharp weapon.
