BMU launches MD course in emergency medicine
The Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) today launched an MD (postgraduate) course in emergency medicine for the first time, marking a significant step towards strengthening emergency healthcare services in the country.
An inaugural programme was held this morning at Shaheed Dr Milton Hall on the university campus, according to a BMU press release.
Speakers at the event said Bangladesh stands at an historic juncture, as newly enrolled doctors in emergency medicine will now have the opportunity to develop into skilled specialists under the supervision of renowned faculty from home and abroad.
This, they added, will help ensure the delivery of high-quality emergency medical services to patients across the country. They also noted that the number of trainees at BMU will increase gradually.
The speakers emphasised the importance of producing specialised professionals in emergency medicine, developing a skilled workforce, creating training opportunities both at home and abroad, raising public awareness, and building the necessary infrastructure through a coordinated approach.
BMU Vice-Chancellor Prof Shahinul Alam, Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services Prof Prabhat Chandra Biswas, and Director General of Medical Education Prof Nazmul Hossain, among others, spoke at the programme.
