July mass uprising: SP Tanvir sent to jail in murder case

Tanvir Salehin Emon

Superintendent of Police (basic training-2) Tanvir Salehin Emon was sent to jail yesterday after he was produced before a Dhaka court in a case filed over murder of trader Abdul Wadud in Dhaka's New Market area during July mass uprising.

A team of Detective Branch of police from Dhaka went to Bangladesh Police Academy in Rajshahi's Sardah on Tuesday night and took SP Tanvir into their custody.

Investigation Officer Md Amzad Hossain Talukder, an inspector of DB, produced him before the court seeking a 10-day remand for him in the case.

The court, however, fixed February 19 for hearing the remand prayer in his presence.

In the remand prayer, the IO said Tanvir needs to be remanded to find out whereabouts of other fugitives, who went into hiding after the case was filed.

Abdul Wadud, 45, a trader at Priyangon Shopping Centre, was killed during the quota reform protests on July 19 last year.

Abdur Rahman, a relative of the deceased, filed the case on August 21 against 130 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and senior Awami League leaders such as Obaidul Quader, Anisul Huq, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Salman F Rahman, and Amir Hossain Amu.

After the fall of Awami League government on August 5 last year, SP Tanvir was transferred to the police academy as superintendent (basic training-2).
