Ex-UP chairman arrested 27 days after case filed for raping physically- challenged girl

Police today (October 28, 2022) arrested a former chairman of Chilarchar Union Parishad 27 days after he was accused in a case of raping a 15-year-old girl with physical disabilities in Madaripur town.

Babul Sarder, also a local Awami League leader, was arrested from his house in Chhilarchar area around 8:30am, Monowar Hossain, officer-in-charge of Madaripur Police Station, told our Shariatpur correspondent.

"Babul went into hiding since the incident. Police conducted multiple raids to nab Babul. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid at his house this morning and arrested him as he came to his house last night," added the OC.

Ex-UP chairman sued for raping physically- challenged girl

On September 29, Babul Sarder raped the girl when the parents were away at work.

Later, the girl's mother filed a rape case against Babul Sardar under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on September 30. He had been absconding since then.
