Case filed over killing of three brothers in Madaripur

A case was filed over the killing of three of a family in a clash over the control of illegal sand business in the Khwajapur union of Madaripur Sadar upazila yesterday.
The victims are Saiful Sardar, 33, organising secretary of the Khwajapur union Swechchhasebak League, his elder brother Ataur Sardar, 35, of the union, and their cousin Palash Sardar, 17. Around 4:00pm yesterday, the three brothers and cousins were hacked to death in the violent clash.
Sufia Begum, mother of Saiful and Ataur, filed a complaint with Madaripur Sadar Model Police Station late last night accusing 49 named people and 70-80 unidentified people. But the complaint was officially registered as a case today, said Md Mokhlesur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the police station.
The OC said that three persons have already been arrested so far and sent to jail following a court hearing around noon today.
According to the police, the dispute stemmed from the illegal sand extraction and lease business. It has been reported that Saiful had been involved in an ongoing feud with a local sand trader, Shahjahan, over control of the sand trade in the area.
Madaripur Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Chatak Chakma said that the other accused are on the run, and efforts are on to arrest them.
