Vacation turns into tragedy: 10 die in road crash on Dhaka-Ctg highway

At least 10 people were killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a microbus on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Lohagara upazila of Chattogram this morning.
All the deceased -- five female, four male and one child -- were the passengers of the microbus, police said. But their identities could not be known immediately.
The deceased and injured are all relatives and were going to Cox's Bazar from Kushtia to enjoy Eid vacation, said Shuvo Ranjan Chakma, officer-in-charge of Dohazari highway police.
Eight persons died on the spot while two other succumbed to their injuries at Chittagong Medical College Hospital, he said.
Sub-inspector Ashek, in-charge of CMCH outpost, also confirmed that four injured were taken to the hospital where two died later.
The accident occurred around 7:00am in the Jangalia area of the Chunti highway section when a Relax Paribahan bus collided with a Cox's Bazar-bound microbus, Arifur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Lohagara Police Station, said earlier.
On information, firefighters rushed to the scene, recovered the bodies, and sent them to the Lohagara Upazila Health Complex, he added.
The bus driver fled following the accident, while police seized the vehicle.
