5 killed, 10 injured as two buses collide on Ctg-Cox’s Bazar highway

At least five people were killed and 10 others injured when two passenger buses collided head-on on the Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway in Lohagara upazila, Chattogram, this morning.
The deceased were identified as Md Rifat, Md Arafat, Md Nazim, and Md Gias, all from Lohagara upazila, and Md Siddique from Satkania upazila, Chattogram, said Shuvo Ranjan Chakma, officer-in-charge (OC) of Dohazari Highway Police Station.
Quoting eyewitnesses, police said the accident occurred around 7:25am when a Cox's Bazar-bound Saudia Paribahan bus collided head-on with an Eagle Paribahan bus coming from the opposite direction at Jangalia Majar Gate.
Fifteen passengers from both buses suffered injuries.
Upon receiving the information, fire service officials and police rushed to the scene and, with the help of locals, rescued the injured, the OC said.
Five of the injured were declared dead upon arrival at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), while the remaining 10 are undergoing treatment there.
Police have detained both bus drivers, and legal proceedings are underway, the OC added.
