Scattered rain likely on Eid day across parts of country
The intermittent spell of rain may continue in different parts of the country until Sunday, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
It is expected to be scattered rather than continuous, the met office said adding that there is some possibility of rain in Dhaka also, meteorologists said.
Meteorologist Tariful Newaz Kabir said there is a likelihood of storms and rain in different parts of the country from Friday night, the effects of which may persist into Saturday, reports Prothom Alo.
However, such weather during this period is typically not continuous, with localised thunderclouds forming and causing Nor’wester and rain.
On Eid day, rain or thundershowers may occur at some places in Mymensingh, Rangpur, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Dhaka divisions, and at one or two places in Chattogram, Barishal and Khulna divisions, said BMD meteorologist Md Omar Faruk.
He noted that rainfall may be relatively higher in Mymensingh, Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions. Some areas in central Dhaka and the northeastern Sylhet region may also receive rain.
However, consistent with the nature of such seasonal rainfall, prolonged precipitation is unlikely.
Meteorologist Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallik said coastal regions -- Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions -- may receive comparatively less rainfall on Eid day, while other divisions may see scattered rain in some places, accompanied by gusty winds.
In line with the seasonal pattern, such storms may develop locally and last from half an hour to one and a half hours.
“There is a chance of rain or gusty winds afternoon on Eid day. In the capital, the sky may be cloudy in the morning and afternoon, which could lead to rain, though it is unlikely to be long-lasting,” said Meteorologist Afroza Sultana.
