Shakib Khan retains ownership of Dhaka Capitals for the next five years
Superstar Shakib Khan will continue as the owner of Dhaka Capitals for the next five years, as confirmed ahead of the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season.
The Dhallywood icon, who first joined the BPL franchise ownership circle last season, made headlines with his entry into cricket management. Although Dhaka Capitals didn't perform remarkably in their debut season, Shakib's active presence in the stands created a unique bridge between cricket and cinema fans, generating major buzz both on and off the field.
Following the previous season, Shakib had promised that his team would return stronger, more aggressive, and better prepared to compete for the title. True to his word, he has renewed his commitment to the franchise.
With the 12th edition of the BPL set to begin on December 19, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has already announced the participating team owners. While there was speculation about whether Shakib would remain involved, it has now been confirmed that he — along with his company Champion Sports — will retain ownership of Dhaka Capitals until 2030.
This season, five teams will compete in the BPL: Dhaka, Rangpur, Chattogram, Rajshahi, and Sylhet. The franchises Khulna and Barishal, who took part last season, will not be participating this time.
Shakib's continued involvement is expected to bring renewed enthusiasm and star power to both the BPL and Dhaka Capitals, blending the glamour of film with the thrill of cricket once again.
