Due to a deterioration in her physical condition, renowned Lalon singer Farida Parveen has been placed on life support.
The managing director of Universal Medical College Hospital in Mohakhali, Dr. Ashish Kumar Chakraborty, told The Daily Star that the decision to put her on life support was made this Wednesday afternoon.
Stating that the condition of the renowned artist is critical, he said, "Her blood pressure is alarmingly low. The infection has increased, and her level of consciousness has also decreased. The kidney complications were already there."
Farida Parveen has been suffering from kidney complications for a long time. Sources say that after a dialysis on September 2, her physical condition deteriorated, and the doctor advised her to be admitted to the hospital. Since then, she has been receiving treatment in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Farida Parveen is a celebrated Bangladeshi folk singer, specializing in Lalon Geeti, which are songs of the 19th-century Bengali mystic poet, Lalon Shah. Her deep, soulful voice and powerful delivery have made her one of the most prominent interpreters of Lalon's philosophical and spiritual songs. Her contributions have been instrumental in popularizing Lalon's music both in Bangladesh and internationally. For her immense contributions to music, she was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 1987, one of Bangladesh's highest civilian honors.
