Cabinet okays draft of ICT policy

The cabinet today approved the draft of the Information Communication and Technology (ICT) Policy-2015 in a bid to ensure development in the ICT sector.

The approval was given at a weekly meeting of the Cabinet held at the Jatiya Sangsad with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary M Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan briefed reporters at the Cabinet Division of Bangladesh Secretariat.

The policy has 10 objectives, 54 strategic themes and an action plan which will be implemented in short-term by 2016, medium by 2018 and long-term by 2021 under different organisations.

A total of 245 action plans has also been mentioned in the policy which will be implemented in three phases.

The policy aims at achieving the new Millennium Development Goal by 2041, said the cabinet secretary.  

The 10 objectives include social equity, education and research, employment generation, strengthening exports, healthcare, agriculture and disaster management.
