BB requires reform: Muhith
Finance Minister AMA Muhith today expressed his dissatisfaction on the overall condition of the Bangladesh Bank and said that reform in the bank is needed.
“Different systems of the Bangladesh Bank require reform. It is not in healthy condition,” Muhith made this observation while talking to reports at the secretariat in Dhaka.
Earlier, the finance minister attended a meeting of the cabinet committee on purchase there.
Without making clear anything about the reform, Muhith said, “We have appointed Fazle Kabir as new governor of Bangladesh Bank and he would look after the issue.”
Former finance secretary and incumbent chairman of state-run Sonali Bank, Fazle Kabir, who is now in New York, would return home on March 18, the finance minister said.
“We expect that he (Fazle Kabir) would join as new governor of Bangladesh Bank by March 20,” he added.
About the BB’s reserve heist, Muhith said the Banking Division Secretary M Aslam Alam should have known about the heist.
“There is no involvement of Aslam Alam in the heist but he should have known about this,” the finance minister said.
