25 years' jail sought for Congo militia chief
War crimes prosecutors yesterday called for former Congolese vice president Jean-Pierre Bemba to be jailed for "at least 25 years" for a slew of rapes and murders in Central African Republic over a decade ago. Bemba, who was found guilty in March on five charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity, and his Congolese Liberation Movement (MLC) carried out a brutal series of rapes and murders in a campaign of terror during the 2002-2003 unrest.
