The Election Commission (EC) today said the upcoming 13th national election and referendum may be held between February 8 and 14, 2026.

Speaking to The Daily Star this evening, Election Commissioner Md Anwarul Islam Sarkar also said, "The election schedule might be announced from December 8 to 14 this year."

February 8 falls on a Sunday and February 14 on a Saturday.

The EC will hold a meeting on December 7 to discuss extending the time of vote by half an hour and fixing the date for announcing the schedule. Decisions on these matters will be taken at that meeting, he added.

Asked whether the national election and the referendum might be held between February 8 and 12, Anwarul said, "We've been saying the second week of February. If it's the second week, then it falls between the 8th and the 14th."

Asked whether the polling time will be extended, he said, "There is a plan, and once the commission decides, it will be final."

As regards the number of booths in polling stations, he said," The commission has yet to decide. Nothing is final yet. We will finalise it in the meeting on the 7th."
