21 gold bars seized at Dhaka airport

Customs officials seized 21 gold bars from a Biman passenger at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka today.
Shahidulla, hailing from Feni, was detained by the officials around 11:30am, Md Wazed Ali, assistant commissioner of customs at the airport, told The Daily Star.
The gold bars worth around Tk 9450,000 were found in his luggage, he said.
Shahidullah was coming from Dubai in an aircraft of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the official added.
Shahidullah claimed he runs business in Dubai and the gold bars were brought in for business purpose.
Customs officials will hand over Shahidullah to police tonight, Wazed Ali added.

Shibir man shot dead in Noakhali clash

An activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir was killed and five others were bullet-hit during a clash with the workers of Bangladesh Chhatra League and Jubo League in Sonaimuri upazila this evening.

Locals said the clash ensued after the ruling party men intercepted a procession brought out by Shibir activists in Sonapur Bazar area around 6:30pm.

Both sides opened fire that resulted in Jobayer’s death, reports our correspondent quoting witnesses.

However, on contact, Abdus Samad, officer-in-charge of Sonaimuri Police Station, said Shibir men clashed with local businessmen after they tried to vandalise shops at Sonapur Bazar area.
