Pakistan pace quartet runs through India
Pakistan pace quartet put on a stellar show, bundling out India for 119 in 19 overs in their Group A match of the ICC T20 World Cup at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York today
Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf returned with identical figures of 3-21 while Mohammad Amir took 2-23 and Shaheen Shah Afridi claimed 1-29 as Pakistan pulled back the Indian innings after they had reached 50-2 in the Powerplay.
For India, Rishabh Pant made 42 off 31 balls while the other members of their star-studded line up had a disappointing day on a tricky surface. India were looking set for a much better total, reaching 89-3 inside 12 overs but then the Pakistani bowlers got on a roll and claimed the remaining seven wickets for just 30 runs.
This is India's lowest total in a T20 World Cup match. Pakistan are desperate to win the encounter after starting their campaign with a shock defeat to the USA.
India vs Pakistan: Play resumes after rain
Play resumed in the T20 World Cup Group A clash between India and Pakistan on Sunday after a 36-minute rain delay with just one over having been bowled.
After earlier showers forced a half-hour delay to the toss-time and start, Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and opted to bowl at Nassau International Cricket Stadium.
Following the two national anthems, observed immaculately by the packed 34,000 crowd, Shaheen Shah Afridi bowled the first over and there was a massive roar when India captain Rohit Sharma struck his third delivery over mid-wicket for six.
India, with Virat Kohli opening with Rohit, picked up eight runs without loss off the first over before the shower stopped play.
But the forecast for the rest of the day looks good and play resumed at mid-day without the loss of any overs.
Pakistan opt to bowl against India
Pakistan captain Babar Azam won the toss and opted to bowl against India in their T20 World Cup Group A match at Nassau International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Light rain delayed the toss and the game will start half an hour later than scheduled at 11m local (15:00 GMT).
India, the pre-tournament favourites, won their opening game against Ireland while Pakistan are still reeling from a shock defeat at the hands of co-hosts USA.
Pakistan welcomed back all-rounder Imad Wasim, who missed their opening game with a rib injury. Azam Khan misses out in the only change for Pakistan.
India are unchanged as they look to take firm control of Group A which also features Canada.
The surface at the New York venue has produced low scoring games and has been criticised for producing uneven bounce with organisers conceding it had been inconsistent.
