Child tied to tree, beaten up in Natore (video)
"Punished" like in medieval times, a teenager has been tied to a tree and beaten up in Natore over an alleged involvement in stealing.
The victim, Shakil Kazi, 14, was beaten up along with Abu Sama, 36, over suspicion of theft in a local grocery shop, reports our Natore correspondent.
The incident, that took place in Malipara village of Boraigram upazila, was filmed by one of the witnesses in the village. The Daily Star has obtained the video clip.
It was alleged that the assaulters did not allow the victims to take treatment in a hospital.
Bulbul Hossain, a local businessman, had some goods stolen from his store Friday night, locals said. Shakil and Abu Sama were held "responsible" for the "theft".
The two were caught on Sunday, tied to trees and beat up allegedly under the instruction of one Robiul Karim, an expatriate living in Saudi Arabia.
Contacted, Robiul expressed indifference and said, "They [the victims] were punished in accordance with the 'social norms and culture' of the village."
It was Robiul who was seen walloping Shakil with full might in the video.
Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge of Boraigram Police Station Monirul Islam told The Daily Star that he sent forces to the spot after he was informed of the incident.
A case was later filed with the station in this regard.
On Monday, a teenager in Khulna was tortured to death in despicable fashion by pumping air into his body through his rectum – because he switched his workplace.
Last month, 13-year-old boy Samiul Alam Rajon was tied to a pole and mercilessly beaten to death – that triggered outrage throughout the country.
