Four detainees snatched from police custody during anti-narcotics drive in Jashore
Four handcuffed detainees were snatched from police custody during an anti-narcotics drive in Manirampur upazila of Jashore last night.
According to police and local sources, a team led by Sub-Inspector Rezaul Karim, in-charge of Nehalpur police camp, conducted a raid at Kajiara village around 9:00pm after receiving information about drug trading and consumption.
During the drive, police detained four individuals when they were consuming yaba, police said.
The detainees were identified as Azizul Islam of Kajiara village; Milon of Khatuadanga village; Iman of Kajiara village; and another person whose identity could not be confirmed immediately.
Following the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Manirampur Police Station Raziullah Khan, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Manirampur Circle Imdadul Haque, and other senior district police officials visited the scene later that night.
OC Raziullah said, “As police were preparing to take them to the police station, a group of locals allegedly turned aggressive and attacked the officers. Amid scuffles and chaos, the mob managed to snatch the four handcuffed detainees and fled.”
Police personnel attempted to resist but failed to retain control as they were outnumbered, he added.
