Newly elected Rucsu vice president (VP) and general secretary (GS) have vowed to uphold the students' mandate with honesty and dedication, following their victory in the Rajshahi University Central Students' Union (Rucsu) election.

At a press conference following the announcement of results this morning, Md Mostakur Rahman Zahid, elected VP from the Shibir-backed panel, said, "We will work according to the students' mandate. I hope those who could not win will extend their full cooperation." Many qualified candidates had contested this year's polls, he added.

Salahuddin Ammar, elected general secretary from the Adhipatyabirodhi Oikya panel, told reporters, "My mandate is from the students. I will never go beyond that mandate, In sha Allah."

Ammar, a former coordinator of the Boishommobirodhi Chhatra Andolon, which led the July mass uprising, said, "If I can fulfill my responsibilities properly, I will proudly say I have served this role with honour. But if I fail, may Allah not let that happen, I want to leave with the same honour with which I entered today," he added.

Following the official announcement of results for the Rucsu, hall union, and senate representatives, the campus erupted in celebration. Supporters chanted slogans including "Nomani's blood will not go in vain," "Justice for Shahbagh killers," "Inqilab Zindabad," "Ward quota no more," and "From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free."

The Rucsu election results were declared this morning by Chief Election Commissioner of Rucsu, Prof F Nazrul Islam, at the Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium, with the Shibir-backed Sammilito Shikkharthi Jote panel securing 20 out of 23 posts.
