BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said today that those who collaborated in the mass killings during the Liberation War are now speaking louder.

"Some people, some parties, some groups are trying to make it seem as if 1971 never happened… trying to erase it from memory. My friends, those who once collaborated in the massacre—those very people—are now speaking louder than ever," Fakhrul said while addressing a discussion at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh, in Dhaka's Ramna.

The event was organised by the BNP on the occasion of the upcoming Independence Day.

"I don't want to name anyone or create bitterness. History is history. No one can distort it. That is why this night is one of deep darkness for us," he added.

Without naming anyone, Fakhrul said, "We know very well what those who campaign with a hundred cars are up to."

The BNP leader further said, "We must revive our old memories. Many in the younger generation today are unaware of important historical events."

"It is shocking that they even dare to question Ziaur Rahman. Shame on them! Those who do not know their own history can never bring prosperity to the nation. One must learn history," Fakhrul said.
