Girls continue to outperform boys in HSC, equivalent exams

Female students lead in both pass rate and GPA-5 achievements across education boards

Girls have once again outperformed boys in this year's Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations, securing both a higher pass rate and a greater number of GPA-5 achievers.

According to the results published today, 61.45 percent of girls passed, compared to 52.17 percent of boys across the nine general education boards.

A total of 558,155 female students appeared for the exams, of whom 342,990 passed -- 489,087 male students and 255,176 passed.

Overall, 59,232 more girls passed the HSC examinations than boys this year. Additionally, 4,991 more girls secured GPA-5 results than their male counterparts.

In the nine general education boards, the gap was even wider—87,814 more girls passed than boys, and 5,097 more girls achieved GPA-5.

Last year, 5,31,714 girls passed the HSC exams, compared to 5,03,595 boys.

This year, a total of 12,51,111 students—6,18,015 male and 6,33,096 female—registered for the exams under 11 education boards. However, nearly 27,000 students did not appear in the examinations.

The HSC and equivalent exams were held across 2,797 centres nationwide.
