Five to six minutes after crossing the flyover adjacent to Kaliakoir Hi-Tech City Park, at around 1:30am, eight to nine robbers, disguised as passengers, sprang into action. They threatened the passengers with sharp knives and machetes, ordering them to stay silent. Three of the robbers held the driver at knifepoint and took control of the bus.

The bus then made a U-turn towards Dhaka from in front of Natiapara Nasir Glass in Tangail's Delduar. After roaming around different areas of Gazipur, including Kaliakoir and Konabari, for about two and a half hours, around 4:00 am, the robbers stopped the bus in front of Nandan Park in the Baripara area of Ashulia and quickly got off.
