DU hall union leaders demand removal of Islamic History Dept chair
Ducsu Literature and Cultural Affairs Secretary Musaddiq Ali Ibne Mohammad, along with several hall union leaders, today submitted a memorandum demanding the suspension of Dr AKM Golam Rabbani from his post as chairperson of the Islamic History and Culture Department at Dhaka University.
The student leaders warned that if Rabbani is not removed within the next 24 hours, the university administration will bear full responsibility for any situation that may arise.
In the memorandum, they alleged that Rabbani, while serving as the university’s proctor, had patronised attacks on students on multiple occasions and had taken a position against the July uprising.
They further claimed that several cases have since been filed against him alongside ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Musaddiq said that another memorandum would be submitted on behalf of Ducsu regarding the issue.
Golam Rabbani was appointed as Dhaka University proctor in 2017, and served in the role for around six years before assuming his current position as department chair.
