The comfort and charm of casual wear

Grandiose festivities, pomp and ceremony, and abundance of happiness define Eid. We go all out with the celebrations, bringing out the best in every way. From a table laden with scrumptious delicacies to making our homes look beautiful with stunning decorations, Eid is a season of absolute joy. As much as we love opulent outfits for this festive occasion, casuals are the real unsung heroes. From cooking to decorating the house to meeting unexpected but welcome visitors on Eid day and after, casuals keep us feeling comfortable while keeping us looking pretty.
So, first things first!
As South Asians, we are fortunate to have such a diverse range of cultures that give us a wealth of varied designs and styles. Soft mulmul is a beautiful organic fabric that is easy on both the skin and the mind. Is there anything lovelier than a soft pink mulmul kurta on Eid morning? Other pastel shades such as lemon-yellow, periwinkle, pistachio-green and lilac are also beautiful.

Go for a chikankari kurta if you prefer some details which is the undisputed queen of demure dressing. Pair it with some lovely jhumkas and beaded white juttis and you are done!
Jaipur-style cotton prints are a craze the world over and for good reason. They are so pretty and intricate that these cotton fabrics are always a good choice when it comes to casuals. And its versatility is another reason why it is so popular. Choose a cotton kurta in a sweet colour combination, such as yellow and pink or green and peach.
Anarkali-style kameezes in cotton print look lovely and are a great choice for those impromptu hangouts and sudden visits so characteristic of Eid. A small chandbali or cute hoops will add to the ethnic vibe and do not forget your golden kolhapuris to finish off the right look.

Ikkat, a traditional handloom fabric made with organic dyes is trending all over the world, and for good reason. Rendered from pure cotton and organically dyed and printed, it is absolutely beautiful. They are always created on a white base, which gives them a subtle yet striking effect, making them perfect for casual day wear.
What's more, ikkat is extremely versatile. An ikkat kurta is comfortable and cute; perfect to be worn as a casual outfit during Eid. A fun pair of hoops with colourful beads is perfect for an ikkat dress; layered necklaces also look great. Channel a boho chic vibe when wearing ikkat as it's also a great choice for the beach during the festive holidays.
Block prints were a major crowd-pleaser in the late nineties and early aughts. They went out of fashion in the past decades but now they are back with a bang and how! We love a good block print, whether it be a shalwar kameez set or saree.
Shalwar kameez is probably the outfit of choice for the majority of Bengali women, simply because it's so darn good. Perfect for hot days, it keeps one looking pretty and also comfortable.

Block-printed sarees also look fantastic and are very easy to wear. Choose a sweet shade of turquoise saree paired with a peach or yellow blouse for that time your friends have invited themselves over for iftar. Wear it with a simple but stunning pearl and gold choker or a pair of Kundan earrings and some glass bangles to complete the look.
Kaftans are no longer your mum's slumber-time favourite but a real class act that will see you through from day to night. Again, it is one of those styles that look chic in any fabric. For those precious times when your parents will drop by for a tête-à-tête, or your nephews and nieces will drop by and demand their rightful salami, a kaftan is your best friend!
Choose a pretty georgette number in mocha mousse, which has been described by fashion gurus as the shade of the year; they look gorgeous on our rich skin tone. A sprinkle of gold embellishment will add some much-needed oomph to the kaftan.
Jaipuri cotton printed kaftans also look lovely and are so easy to wear at home when entertaining loved ones. Block-printed pieces are the latest innovation that designers have smartly devised and it is perfect for those of us who cannot live without prints. Some long strands of pearls will add the right amount of elegance to this casual Eid glam.
