Law students showcase their research skills at the NSU Undergraduate Law Symposium

The Department of Law, North South University, organised a students' research symposium for undergraduate students on Thursday, 13th October 2022. The shortlisted papers were presented by the participants from different public and private universities from all around Bangladesh at North South University.
The honourable judges of the event were Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ekramul Haque, Professor, Department of Law, University of Dhaka; Mr Emraan Azad, Assistant Professor, Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) and Mr. Mohammad Pizuar Hossain, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Law at East West University.
The event was inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Norman Kenneth Swazo, Director, Office of Research and a Professor of Philosophy at North South University (NSU). The special guest of the event was Prof. Dr. Abdur Rob Khan, Dean, School of Humanities & Social Sciences, NSU and the chief guest was Prof. Dr. M. Ismail Hossain, Pro-Vice Chancellor, NSU; both of whom enriched the programme with their words of wisdom on research.
After the presentations by the participants, there was a question-answer segment where the judges commented on the research papers of the participants. The participants benefited from the feedback which would hopefully play an important role in improving the papers and maybe wider dissemination via an eventual publication. Later, the results were announced, followed by brief remarks from Dr. Md Rizwanul Islam, Professor and Chair of the Department of Law. The champion was Ms. Tarazi Mohammed Sheikh, a student of BRAC University, the first runner up was Md. Sajidur Rahman, a student of North South University (NSU) and the second runner up was Md. Samsur Rahaman, also a student of NSU. The prize pool was some nominal cash along with crests and certificates. Mr Nafiz Ahmed, Lecturer, Department of Law, North South University delivered the vote of thanks at the end of the ceremony. Ms. Sayere Nazabi Sayem, a teaching assistant at the Department of Law, anchored the program.
The Department of Law of North South University organises symposiums on a regular basis (three times a year) to present young legal minds with an opportunity to discuss and refine their research skills. It hopes to inspire law students to understand the importance of it and that it is an integral part of legal education.
