Motorists to be trained to control noise pollution: environment minister

Environment Minister Md Shahab Uddin today said that the government is working to build a social movement to control noise pollution.

"Various special programs are being held for this purpose. The government will provide training to all concerned including drivers to control noise pollution," he said.

The minister was replying to the journalists after observing the 'one minute of silence' program in front of the Osmani Memorial Auditorium next to the Secretariat this morning.

Deputy Minister of the Ministry Habibun Nahar, Secretary Farhina Ahmed, Additional Secretary (Environmental Pollution Control) Md Mizanur Rahman and other senior officials were also present.

At that time banners, festoons, and leaflets were distributed among the drivers of the vehicles.

A "one minute of silence" programme was observed in Dhaka city from 10:00am to 10:01am to create widespread public awareness about noise pollution.

To make the event successful, officials and employees of the government departments and agencies, school and college scouts, traffic police and members of transport owners association formed human chains with banners, festoons from 9:30am to 10:00am on Sunday at 11 important points of Dhaka city.
