‘Lokah’ triumphs at the Indian box office, surpassing ‘Baahubali 2’ in Kerala
"Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra", a supernatural thriller starring Kalyani Priyadarshan, has achieved a significant box office milestone, surpassing the long-standing record of "Baahubali 2" in the state of Kerala, India.
According to Sacnilk, the film accumulated Rs 74.7 crore in Kerala by its fifteenth day, exceeding the Rs 73 crore record previously held by "Baahubali 2". This performance underscores the film's strong reception and its ability to attract a wide audience.

Globally, "Lokah" has also demonstrated commercial success, crossing the Rs 200 crore mark within 13 days of its release. This places it as the fourth-highest-grossing Malayalam film to date, behind "Empuraan", "Manjummel Boys", and "Thudarum". On its fifteenth day, the film earned an estimated Rs 3.85 crore.
Produced by Dulquer Salmaan's Wayfarer Films and directed by Dominic Arun, "Lokah" is a fantasy drama set in pre-independence India.
The narrative centres on Chandra, a character who discovers her superpowers following her father's disappearance. Kalyani Priyadarshan's portrayal of the lead character has been noted for its effectiveness.

The screenplay, written by Santhy Balachandran, is a key component of the film's positive reception. The film is characterised by its blend of traditional folklore and modern superhero elements, and is referred to as the "first female superhero thriller flick" in Malayalam cinema.
The cast also includes Naslen, Sandy, Arun Kurian, and Chandu Salimkumar in supporting roles. The film's critical and commercial success has led to reports of a sequel, with speculation that actor Tovino Thomas may feature in the next instalment.
