HBO confirms ‘Big Little Lies’ Season 3 with Francesca Sloane at the helm
HBO has confirmed that "Big Little Lies" will return for a third season, with Francesca Sloane, co-creator of "Mr and Mrs Smith", tapped to write the opening episode and serve as an executive producer. She will join David E Kelley, Nicole Kidman, and Reese Witherspoon in steering the project, with Kidman and Witherspoon reprising their lead roles.

The announcement follows months of speculation, fueled in part by Kidman hinting at a possible return in late 2023. This marks the first official confirmation of the new season. Sloane recently signed a two-year overall deal with HBO, even as her other project, "Mr and Mrs Smith" Season 2 for Amazon Prime Video, was put on indefinite hold.
"Big Little Lies" debuted in 2017 as a limited series, adapted from Liane Moriarty's novel, and became a runaway success. The show collected multiple Emmys, including best limited series, best actress for Kidman, and best supporting actress for Laura Dern. HBO later extended the story with a second season, which introduced Meryl Streep as Mary Louise Wright alongside the returning ensemble cast.
Across its run, the series has featured a powerhouse lineup: Shailene Woodley, Zoë Kravitz, Alexander Skarsgård (who also won an Emmy for Season 1), Adam Scott, James Tupper, and Jeffrey Nordling. While Season 1 followed Moriarty's novel, Season 2 drew from new material by the author.
A sequel novel by Moriarty is also slated for release in 2026, potentially offering fresh inspiration for the show's future.
