‘Baksher Baire’: An art workshop for underprivileged children
"Baksher Baire", which directly translates to 'Out of the Box', is an art workshop that will be held in collaboration with the ROY G BIV Gallery at Columbus, Ohio in the US, and Gori in Bangladesh on February 17, 2023.
The event will be taking place in Shishu Polli Plus, Sreepur, Gazipur. Conducted by Dina Zaman—a Bangladeshi-American visual artist—this workshop aims to teach art and bring out the creative persona of the children in Shishu Polli.
Dina Zaman received her Bachelor's degree in drawing and painting from the Fine Arts Institute, University of Dhaka. After moving to Columbus, Ohio, she has been working as a visual and conceptual artist for twenty years now.
She has worked with local American artists and has represented Bangladesh in the US. Her works are mostly inspired by nature and women. Now, Dina believes that she needs to get out of her bubble and do more for her motherland.
The workshop will feature eight emerging Bangladeshi artists--Emran Sohel, Sanjid Mahmud, Rupam Roy, Syed Tarek Rahman, Jewel A Rob, Abir Shome, Sadia Hussain and Dina Zaman--with their 2D, collaborative, and collective artworks. Another exhibition will take place at ROY G BIV Gallery in Ohio, from May 12 to June 2 of this year.
Thanks to this non-profit initiative, the children of Shishu Polli will receive art supplies and start their artistic journey. Shishu Polli is a shelter for orphaned children, and abandoned women who are victims of abuse.
This colourful event will be documented and presented in Ohio, where another similar workshop will be conducted. The whole purpose of "Baksher Baire" is to raise donations for the women and children of Shishu Polli, who went through social cruelty.
