James concert in Faridpur called off after attack
A concert by legendary Bangladeshi rock musician James was called off in Faridpur following an alleged attack by "outsiders", despite full preparations by the organisers.
The concert was scheduled to take place at around 9pm on Friday at the Faridpur Zilla School premises, marking the school's 185th anniversary.
According to the organising committee, a group of outsiders attempted to force their way into the venue after being denied entry. When stopped, they reportedly began hurling bricks and stones and tried to seize control of the stage. Students of Faridpur District School resisted the attack, eventually forcing the assailants to retreat.
According to reports, at around 10pm, organising committee convenor Mustafizur Rahman Shamim announced that the concert had been cancelled on the instructions of the Faridpur Deputy Commissioner.
Rajibul Hasan Khan, convenor of the anniversary event's publicity and media subcommittee, told the media outlet bdnews24, "We had completed all preparations to make James's concert a success. But we still do not understand why the attack happened, what prompted it, or who was behind it."
He added that at least 15 to 20 students of Faridpur Zilla School were injured after being struck by bricks during the incident.
