Bangladeshi moviegoers will be able to watch acclaimed filmmaker Steven Spielberg’s latest film “Disclosure Day” on the same day as its worldwide release.

The science-fiction thriller is scheduled to hit theatres globally tomorrow (June 12) and will also open at Star Cineplex in Bangladesh, according to the multiplex’s Chief Marketing Officer, Mesbah Uddin Ahmed.

One of the most celebrated directors in cinema history, Spielberg has spent more than five decades shaping modern filmmaking and has won three Academy Awards during his career. News of a new Spielberg project has once again generated excitement among film enthusiasts worldwide.

After focusing in recent years on more personal and character-driven stories such as “The Fabelmans” and “West Side Story”, Spielberg appears to be returning to the genre that helped define his career — a blend of mystery, technology, wonder and the unknown.

While plot details remain largely under wraps, “Disclosure Day” is said to centre on extraterrestrial life, its arrival on Earth and a far-reaching government conspiracy designed to conceal the truth.

The film stars Emily Blunt as a weather broadcaster who becomes mysteriously connected to alien visitors. Josh O’Connor plays a character who uncovers evidence suggesting contact between humans and another civilisation has already taken place.

Meanwhile, Colin Firth portrays a powerful government official determined to keep the secret hidden at any cost.

The screenplay was written by David Koepp, who previously collaborated with Spielberg on the blockbuster “Jurassic Park”.

Early reactions from journalists attending the film’s premiere screening have been positive, with particular praise directed at Emily Blunt’s performance, which some critics have described as one of the strongest of her career.

Speaking at the premiere, Spielberg said the film aims to provoke curiosity as much as it seeks to provide answers.

“I believe this film will offer answers, but it will also encourage audiences to ask more questions about the unknown,” he said.
