War crimes: Pro-liberation body names 200 ex-Pakistani army men
A pro-liberation organisation today revealed a list of 200 former Pakistani army officers and demanded their trial for their crimes committed during the Liberation War in 1971.
The list will be handed over to the investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal for further investigation and for bringing the criminals to book, said Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan, also converner of Antorjatik Juddhoporadh Gonobichar Andolon.
The organisation revealed the list at a press conference at Swadhinata Hall in the city’s Topkhana road this afternoon where Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan was the convener.
The list has been prepared based of information and date from different sources, he said.
The organisation demanded trial of the former Pakistani officers for committing crimes like genocide, rape, looting, arson and masterminding such crimes during the nine-month War of Independence.
Responding to a question on whether this list will affect diplomatic ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh, the minister Khan said “We don’t want to sever ties with Pakistan. Rather Pakistan is behaving against diplomatic manner.”
