US state dept counsellor to visit Dhaka Sunday
Counsellor of the US Department of State Thomas Shannon will travel to Dhaka on Sunday to discuss bilateral issues between US and Bangladesh.
His trip will highlight the strength and durability of both countries’ relationship and continued gains to be made in security, trade, development, the environment, and countering violent extremism, according to a media note of the office of the spokesperson in Washington, DC.
Ambassador Shannon will meet with senior government and parliamentary leaders, as well as media, civil society, and labour representatives, and will visit a USAID-funded healthcare clinic, said the media note issued yesterday.
He also will visit Sri Lanka on Monday (December 14) to reaffirm US support for Sri Lanka’s reform agenda and explore greater cooperation in development, security, economic growth, and regional connectivity.
The ambassador will be accompanied by Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Desai Biswal in Bangladesh and Deputy Assistant Secretary for South Asia Manpreet Singh Anand in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
