Jhenidah shopkeeper killed as BGB opens fire
A shopkeeper was killed as Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members opened fire at cattle traders in Maheshpur upazila of Jhenidah this evening.
Three villagers were also bullet-hit in the incident, Azizur Rahman, a member of Jadabpur Union Parishad, told our Jhenidah correspondent.
The deceased was identified as Rafiqul Islam, 35, a resident of Matila village.
According to the UP member, a group of people smuggled cattle into Bangladesh from India through Jadabpur frontier around 7:30pm.
As they reached the village with their cattle, BGB men chased them and at one stage opened fire, leaving a nearby grocery shop owner killed on the spot and three others injured, added Azizur.
The injured -- Abdul Khalek, Babul Hossain and Azibar Rahman – were admitted to Maheshpur Upazila Health Complex.
Contacted, Shishir Biswas, Jadabpur camp commander, did not want to make any comment in this regard.
