Attack on Zafar Iqbal: Foyzur, his family charged
The attacker, his family and accomplice have been charged on count of attempted murder on eminent educationist Prof Muhammad Zafar Iqbal back on March 3.
Shafiqul Islam, the investigation officer of the case and officer-in-charge of Jalalabad Police Station, filed the charges before Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Haridash Kumar today.
The accused are attacker Foyzur Hasan, his father Atiqur Rahman, mother Minara Begum, brother Enamul Hasan, uncle Fozlur Rahman and Foyzur's accomplice Sohag Miah of the same upazila. All six are in jail, our local correspondent reports.

There are 60 witnesses included in the 353-page charge sheet.
The investigation officer says, Foyzur was self radicalised, and that thorough investigation did not reveal his affiliation with any militant organisation.

Regarding the family, he says that they knew about Foyzur’s militancy affiliation, but paid no heed to it. Also, they tried to destroy evidence after Foyzur attempted a murder.
The accomplice Sohag said to have given him Islamic videos from time to time.

Dr Iqbal, a faculty member of Computer Science and Engineering department at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), came under attack on March 3 when he was attending a programme at campus.
