5 killed, 8 hurt in Narayanganj train crash
At least five people including a woman were killed and eight others injured as a train hit a human hauler in Pagla Rasulpur rail gate area of Narayanganj tonight.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
The accident took place around 10:30pm on Tuesday when the Narayanganj bound passenger train from Dhaka rammed into the human hauler that broke down on an unmanned level crossing at Pagla Rasulpur, said Abdul Mazid, officer-in-charge of Dhaka Railway Police Station.
On impact of the hit, the vehicle was flung to the nearby shops, killing one on the spot, he said.
The OC said the deceased and most of the injured were pedestrians. The vehicle, started from Jurain with around 10 passengers, suddenly stopped on the level crossing. Most of the passengers hurriedly got down of the vehicle seeing an approaching train, he said.
A total of 12 people were taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where four people died midnight.
