Detectives today claimed detention of six criminals from three districts including Dhaka and seized 21 motorcycles and a private car from their possession.

The arrestees -- Mohammad Jamal, Akbar Ali, Kamruzzaman alias Kamrul, Anisur, Mohammad Emdad and Purnamoni Chakma -- were the members of a bike mugging syndicate, said Shaikh Nazmul Alam, deputy commissioner of Detective Branch (west) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

DB members arrested them during separate drives in Dhaka, Narayanganj and Khagrachhari yesterday, the police official said today during a press briefing at DMP media centre.

The law enforcers also recovered two machetes and some iron rods from their possession, he added.

The criminals used to waylay motor bikers on different roads with private cars and snatched away the motorbikes, the DC said adding that after changing the chassis numbers, they used to sell those to remote areas.
