2 SIs, informer sent to jail in murder case

A Dhaka court today sent two sub-inspectors of Pallabi Police Station and one of their informers to jail in a case filed in connection with the custodial death of a man in 2012.

The accused are police officers Md Nuruzzaman and Rezaul Karim Patowary and informer Md Babo alias Roton.

Judge Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman of Special Judge Court-5 passed the order after the trio surrendered before it seeking bail in connection with the killing of Md Faruk Hossain Kamal in February 2012.

According to the case statement, the trio picked up Kamal on February 19, 2012 from his Kafrul residence and demanded Tk 3 lakh as extortion. Later, they tortured Kamal after taking him to the police station, leaving him critically injured.

As Kamal’s condition deteriorated, police admitted him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed on February 28, 2012.

Around two months after Kamal’s death, his brother lodged a complaint case with the chief metropolitan magistrate’s court on April 18, 2012.
