Bangladesh’s first national mock trial competition hosted by North South University Law and Mooting Society

On March 1, the North South University Law and Mooting Society (NSULMS) organised the country's first National Mock Trial Competition, titled "National Trial Tactics". The event brought together 22 teams from 18 universities across Bangladesh, marking a new chapter in the country's legal education.
The journey of the National Trial Tactics began with a workshop on February 14 conducted by BDLP Law Firm and Abid Hossain Ansary, an advocate and alumnus of North South University (NSU). The workshop provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of criminal trial proceedings from scratch, equipping them with the necessary skills for the upcoming competition.
The event kicked off with the preliminary round, where 22 teams faced off in intense legal battles. Each team had to impress a panel of two judges, who evaluated their legal reasoning, argument construction, and courtroom demeanor. After an intense preliminary round, the top 10 teams advanced, raising the stakes and making the competition even more thrilling.
As the event reached its climax, the best teams and individuals were recognised for their outstanding performances. LCLS (South) emerged as the champion, while NSU secured the runner-up spot. NSU also claimed the title of Best Prosecution Team, while BRAC University was honoured as the Best Defense Team. The Best Advocate award went to Bushra Khaliq from BRAC University.
The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where judges, organisers, and participants reflected on the success of this first of its kind competition.
The event was honored by the presence of Justice Syed Mohammad Tazrul Hossain from the High Court Division; Prof. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of NSU; Prof. Dr Md Rizwanul Islam, Dean of the School of Humanities & Social Sciences; and Ishtiaque Ahmed, Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Law at NSU. Chief Guest Justice Syed Mohammad Tazrul Hossain remarked that he had never witnessed an event of this kind before, as legal competitions are typically limited to moot courts. He expressed his delight in attending and commended NSU for pioneering such a groundbreaking initiative.
NSULMS Faculty Advisor Nasmin Jabin Noor and NSULMS President Zannatin Tazri expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the faculties, executive and sub-executive board members, volunteers, and all members for their roles in making the event a grand success.
The event was covered by Nahanun Nuther Nuha, Ahamed Musa Abid, and Ragib Shahriar, all LL.B. (Honours) students at North South University.
