Bangladesh Medical Students' Society (BMSS)—the nation's largest network of medical students—successfully hosted the National General Assembly 2025 (NGA'25) on October 3 at Daffodil International University (DIU). The event brought together over 800 medical students, young doctors, and health professionals from 85 local committees across 100 medical institutions, making it the largest youth-led healthcare conference in Bangladesh.

Under the theme "PHOENIX: From Ashes We Heal, Through Waves We Rise", NGA'25 embodied the resilience, innovation, and leadership of a generation determined to redefine healthcare and public health in the nation.

The opening ceremony was graced by Prof. Dr Md Abu Jafor, Director General of DGHS, as the Chief Guest, and National Professor A K Azad Khan, President of BADAS, who delivered the keynote address. Distinguished guests included Prof. Dr Muzaherul Huq, Senior Advisor to the World Federation for Medical Education; Dr Tahmina Shirin, Director of IEDCR; and Prof. Mohammed Masum Iqbal, PhD, Pro-Vice Chancellor of DIU. The event was convened by Prof. Dr A B M Alauddin Chowdhury, Head of Public Health, DIU.

Throughout the day, over 25 thematic and clinical sessions were conducted, featuring experts from WHO, UNAIDS, UNESCO, icddr,b, BMRC, DGHS, and DGME. Discussions covered medical curriculum reform, reproductive and mental health, oral cancer screening, and clinical skill advancement. Participants engaged in hands-on workshops on CPR, obstetric emergencies, surgical suturing, diagnostic imaging, diabetes management, and more.

The research segment highlighted exceptional student contributions, with abstract presentations evaluated by renowned researchers including Dr Ahmed Ehsanur Rahman (icddr,b) and Professor Sohel Raza Chowdhury (National Heart Foundation).

The closing ceremony was presided over by Prof. Dr Nazmul Hossain, DGME, as the Chief Guest, with Guests of Honour Dr Saima Khan (UNAIDS), Dr Md Nasir Uddin (NIBPS), and Prof. Dr Halida Hanum Akhter (Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health). Awards were presented to outstanding participants in research, skills, and leadership categories, followed by the announcement of the new BMSS Executive Board.

With NGA'25, BMSS once again reaffirmed its legacy as a catalyst for youth empowerment in healthcare, uniting aspiring physicians and public health leaders to rise through challenges, drive innovation, and envision a healthier, more equitable Bangladesh.
