DU hands over deputy registrar to police over Facebook post on Hasina verdict
Dhaka University's proctorial team, along with several students, handed over Deputy Registrar Muhammad Lovelu Mollah to Shahbagh Police Station around midnight following the post of a photocard after the verdict against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
In reaction to the death sentences handed to Sheikh Hasina and former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan for crimes against humanity, he posted a photocard on his Facebool profile featuring Sheikh Hasina with the text "I Don't Care", adding the caption "Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu" .
He was subsequently brought to Shahbagh Police Station by DU students and the proctorial team.
Confirming the development, Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Khalid Monsur told The Daily Star, "The proctorial team and students brought Lovelu to the station. He posted on Facebook opposing the death sentence verdict of Sheikh Hasina."
When asked whether Lovelu had been arrested or placed in custody, the OC said, "We are following the legal procedures required in such cases."
He further said, "During the July–August (July uprising), he [Lovelu] stood against general students, was involved with a banned organisation, and has now made this Facebook post."
No case had been filed against him as of filing the report, but "legal procedures are underway," the OC added.
Meanwhile, Ducsu Liberation War and Democratic Movements Affairs Secretary Fatima Tasnim Juma wrote on her personal Facebook profile, "We've handed Lovelu over to the police. We will take the same stand against teachers involved in genocide. Anyone showing sympathy for them will also be held accountable."
Dhaka University Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed told media, "After the verdict against Sheikh Hasina, Lovelu Mollah posted a photocard with the text "I Don't Care".
"Whoever he may be, we will take action against him," he said.
He added that around four months ago, Lovelu had been relieved of his duties over allegations of tampering with official files.
