Meta is preparing to introduce its most ambitious wearable device yet at its annual Connect conference this week, with Mark Zuckerberg expected to unveil a new pair of smart glasses equipped with a built-in digital display.

According to a recent report by Reuters, the launch, scheduled at the company's headquarters in Menlo Park, California, marks the first time Meta will present consumer-ready glasses that integrate augmented reality functions beyond cameras and audio.

The device, codenamed "Hypernova" internally and likely to debut under the name "Celeste," will retail for about $800, placing it at a significantly higher price point than Meta's existing Ray-Ban and Oakley collaborations, as per the report.

Since 2020, Meta has invested more than $60 billion in its augmented and virtual reality division, while continuing to trail rivals such as Google and OpenAI in AI research.

At Connect, the company is also expected to showcase its first wristband that enables gesture-based control of the new glasses, alongside an updated Ray-Ban line with better cameras, longer battery life and expanded AI features.

According to a report by CNBC, luxury branding, possibly with Prada, may feature in the Hypernova design, though the Italian fashion house has not made any official announcements.

A number of media reports from February 2025 suggests that Meta has sold around two million pairs of Ray-Ban smart glasses since October 2023, one of the few successes in a sector where Google Glass and other attempts failed to gain traction.
