Donald Trump, the newly sworn-in 47th President of the United States, stated that he wants to put American astronauts on Mars, during his inauguration speech at the Capitol building in Washington, D.C.

Trump said, "We will pursue our manifest destiny into the stars, launching American astronauts to plant the stars and stripes on the planet Mars."

During this part of his speech, Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, was seen giving a thumbs up to the camera pointing at him. SpaceX has future plans of exploring Mars as part of its space programs.

Trump in his inaugural address highlighted several executive actions. One of which included rolling back clean energy initiatives.

In an earlier part of his speech, Trump also talked about revoking the electric vehicle (EV) mandate in the US.

"With my actions today, we will end the Green New Deal and we will revoke the electric vehicle mandate, saving our auto industry and keeping my sacred pledge to my great American auto workers," said Trump.

He added, "In other words, you'll be able to buy the car of your choice. We will build automobiles in America again at a rate that nobody could have dreamt possible just a few years ago."
